My experience of art is that it not only speaks for itself, but - very often - it speaks for me. Expressing my joy and sense of hope through the creation of art only serves to amplify the very things I want more of in my life.

Anne Buckvold is a social worker, a politician and an artist.

Anne was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her experience in Greenland as a young exchange student inspired a lasting love of travel. She went on to complete her undergraduate degree in Denmark in Social Pedagogy, and in 2006 completed her masters in Social Work at the University of Maine. She has also lived and worked in Arctic Canada, China and Mexico.

The sum of Anne’s professional experiences thus far reflects her interest in working with people, educating, organizing and advocating for systemic change that creates greater access and connectivity, such as public transportation investments in rural communities and affordable housing. Notable accomplishments to date include the creation of an Arctic Wall map that has been distributed to educators across the country by the National Geographic Society and National Science Foundation, and in 2018 she was elected to the St. Joseph City Council.
